The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services is designed to produce high-quality, entry-level paramedics who can serve the community with advanced life support care via the National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards (NEMSES). Program graduates are eligible to sit for the National Registry Paramedic cognitive and psychomotor examination which will make them eligible for certification in Virginia. Students must be 18 years of age before enrolling in any ALS courses (EMS 123 or higher).
BRCC offers this academic program through partnerships with local healthcare agencies and community affiliates to provide clinical education opportunities for students.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
Award: Career Studies Certificate

Purpose: to provide basic skills that prepare individuals for entry level emergency medical technician professions. The completed career studies certificate provides a foundation for students who wish to pursue more advanced preparation in the AEMT career studies certificate, Paramedic Certificate and/or A.A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services.

Pre-Emergency Medical Services
Award: Career Studies Certificate

Purpose: to prepare students who wish to enter into the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) A.A.S. degree program at Blue Ridge Community College.
Students are not required to complete all courses listed prior to applying to Blue Ridge Community College's EMS program. However, successful completion of the Pre-EMS Career Studies Certificate will strengthen the applicant's academic record. Completing the Pre-EMS career studies certificate does not guarantee admission in to BRCC's EMS program.
