Student Outreach and Resource Center (SOAR)

The SOAR Center https://www.brcc.edu/student-support-services/student-support/soar/ is located in Houff G164A (across from the cafeteria) and helps students connect with appropriate BRCC and community resources to deal with life challenges. The SOAR center is dedicated to helping students navigate challenges so that they can continue their educational pursuits successfully.

Services include, but are not limited to:

Single Stop – This free screening tool takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.  It’s the first step in 
assessing eligibility for federal, state and internal benefit programs and offers a robust database for 
local resources.  The SOAR Coordinator will follow-up with students regarding their eligibility, next 
steps and provide guidance to help students through the process.
   
TimelyCare – This virtual health and well-being platform is available FREE to all students with a 
VCCS email. You can access care 24/7, 365 days a year in several different ways -   Self-Care 
Journeys provide tools from experts on a range of topics, Peer Community is where you can share
your thoughts, feelings and emotions as part of a nationwide community of students who may face
the same challenges as you do, TalkNow provides on-demand emotional support 24/7 from a 
licensed mental health professional, and three FREE scheduled counseling sessions are available to

Lunch 2 Go – In an effort to help BRCC students with nutritional needs, the SOAR Center offers this 
program for qualifying students.  Meal vouchers are provided for use on days the student attends 
on-campus classes.  Visit the SOAR Center in G164A for more information.
 
Temporary Emergency Financial Assistance – This program is available to BRCC students who meet 
defined eligibility requirements and demonstrate need through supporting documentation.  The SOAR 
Coordinator assists students through the application process.  If you have experienced an emergency 
and it is negatively impacting your life, reach out to the SOAR Center and discuss what help may be 
available to you!
BRCC Cares – This program provides basic personal hygiene products to students in need.  Students 
are invited to visit the SOAR Center and pick up items needed.  (Personal hygiene products may include 
shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrush/toothpaste, body soap, feminine hygiene products, 
and more.)
 
The SOAR Center is part of the Student Success Center which empowers students to achieve their 
educational and career goals, by providing tools and resources to support students to overcome 
barriers to success.  Along with the SOAR Center, the offices of Career Services, Student Accessibility, 
and Student Success are located in the Student Success Center, in Houff G164, directly across 
from the cafeteria.
